For us, Competition isn’t all about winning a trophy or being the best, it’s about taking every opportunity to learn and grow, being the best you can be, encouraging good sportsmanship and ethics, appreciation for the arts, and supporting not just our teammates but all others in the dance community.

Dancers going into the 2nd grade and up with at least 1 year of dance experience are invited to audition to join the 2024-25 Legacy Competition team.

Dancers who would like to be a part of the team but are unable to attend the audition, please contact Ms. Kasie PRIOR to audition start time.

team requirements and rehearsals

This season we have 3 team levels:

Junior - for younger dancers who are new or fairly new to competition. Junior team members must be taking a regular combined class as well as at least 1 extra class (hip hop, musical theater, Technique, or Acro. Does not include competition or nutcracker rehearsals). This team will be attending 1 convention and 3 competitions.

Teen - for preteen/teen dancers who wish to compete, but at a recreational level. Teen team members must take a ballet AND jazz class, as well as at least 1 extra class (Hip Hop, Acro, Musical Theater, or Technique) for a total of at least 3 hours of weekly classes that do not include competition or nutcracker rehearsal. This team will be attending 1 convention and 4 competitions.

Elite Teen - for preteen/teen dancers who wish to compete at a higher level. Elite team members must be taking both ballet and jazz, and at least 3 additional classes (does not include competition or nutcracker rehearsal) for a total minimum of 5 hours of weekly classes. This team will be attending 1 convention and 4+ competitions.

I would like to have several rehearsals in August (schedules allowing), which we can work around each team’s schedule. During the season, rehearsals will be Sundays, broken down to:
12:30-1:30 Junior team
1:30-2:30 Teen team
2:30-3:30 Elite team

any extra routines will be scheduled outside of those rehearsal times.

About Legacy Competition Team

what is competition team?

The Legacy Competition Team is a dedicated group of dancers working to be an elite representation of the studio, it’s teachers, and our area! We strive to provide a positive, yet demanding experience that will push our dancers to strive for their full potential! We are looking for dancers (and parents) who are dedicated, well behaved, positive, responsible, and follow directions.

As one dancer missing may mean hours of re-working and re-choreographing, students on the Competition Team must decide that it will be their FIRST priority and take precedence over other sports/activities. In the case of illnesses, etc, a max of 4 competition class and 6 days of class absences are allowed throughout the year. EVERY class is important to a dancers’ training, and each absence (excused or not) puts a dancer behind the rest of his/her team. Performances are NOT permitted to be missed except in extenuating circumstances (funeral, serious injury, etc.) Please do not audition for this FULL YEAR, August 2024-August 2025 commitment if you are unable to commit!

dances and performances:

Competition team members MUST attend ALL competitions for their team (except in the case of extreme circumstances).

Each team will learn at least 2 group routines (occasionally teams may have more routines, at teacher’s discretion) . All costuming expenses and entrance fees for assigned group routines will be cover by the competition team fund, funds allowing.

extra dances:

Dancers with at least 1 year experience on the competition team may do 1 additional routine (solo, duet, or trio (entrance fees for solo and additional duet/trio not covered by team funds). We strongly recommend dancers who were on the junior team the prior year NOT do a solo, but a duet or trio instead.

Dancers are encouraged to share any ideas for additional dances such as song choice, story line, style, costume, etc, however, all choreography will be done by a legacy staff member, and Miss Kasie/Mr. Demetri have final say in any choreography, song, costume, etc. choice.

Dancers will receive 4 free sessions for extra dance choreography (1/2 hour for solos, 45 min. for duets or trios). Each additional session will be $5 per dancer. Prior to our first competition of the season, we will have opportunities for multiple dancers to come in to rehearse and get feed back free of charge.

What to expect at audition:

Dancers in the 2nd grade and up are invited to audition to join the 2024-25 Legacy Competition team.

Please be sure both auditioning dancer and parents understand and agree to competition team terms before auditioning.

Dancers, please come to the audition in regular dance attire (leotard, tights, skirt or dance shorts, or tight fitting top and leggings with hair in a bun) wearing either jazz, ballet, or lyrical shoes.

Please arrive a few minutes early to allow time to fill out an audition form.

Dancers will do a brief warm-up, followed by some across the floor movements and learning a short combo. Dancers will then be broken up into smaller groups to allow more space for dancing!

Expenses

A one time fee of $190 covers all rehearsals throughout the season.

In addition, we require a $100 deposit per dancer, payable by cash or check made out to “Legacy Competition Line” due September 30th. Deposit will be returned to those team members who have completed our season in September 2025.

Those team members who DO NOT complete our competition season in good standing will forfeit their deposit.

The competition team does many fundraisers throughout the season to help cover group expenses such as team jackets, group dance entrance fees, and group costumes (which are returned at the end of the season).  Some NOT covered expenses involved with competition team may include but are not limited to: hotel rooms, entrance fees and costumes for extra optional solos/duets/trios, dance shoes, and partial workshop fees. If the competition team is unable to fundraise enough to cover all group expenses, the difference will be split amongst the competition families.

how placement is determined

Placement is determined by a variety of technique factors, such as: leaps, turns, overall ballet technique, speed and accuracy of picking up choreography, how certain dancers dance together, and what style(s) the dancer excels at, and how many hours a week they take class.

We also take into consideration non-technical factors like: being prompt and prepared, paying attention, being courteous and polite to teachers and other dancers.
